Cardboard City

A pile of clean boxes becomes roads, buildings, bridges, and one shared place every builder can change.

01 · MATERIALS

Keep it ordinary

  • Clean cardboard boxes
  • Painter’s tape and masking tape
  • Washable markers
  • Safety scissors used with adult supervision
  • Toy cars or figures, optional
02 · TIME

60–90 minutes

Ten minutes to plan, forty to build, fifteen to connect roads and test the city, then cleanup.

03 · AGES

Designed for 5–10

Younger siblings can decorate larger pieces beside their supervising adult. Adults handle difficult cuts.

Build the city in four moves

  1. Each builder chooses one place the city needs.
  2. Build separately for a short time so every child owns an idea.
  3. Join the projects with shared roads, bridges, signs, or parks.
  4. Test the city with a delivery, rescue, or travel challenge.
