Cardboard City
A pile of clean boxes becomes roads, buildings, bridges, and one shared place every builder can change.
60–90 minutes
Ten minutes to plan, forty to build, fifteen to connect roads and test the city, then cleanup.
Designed for 5–10
Younger siblings can decorate larger pieces beside their supervising adult. Adults handle difficult cuts.
Build the city in four moves
- Each builder chooses one place the city needs.
- Build separately for a short time so every child owns an idea.
- Join the projects with shared roads, bridges, signs, or parks.
- Test the city with a delivery, rescue, or travel challenge.

- What part keeps falling, and what could make it stronger?
- Whose building should our road connect to next?
- Do you want an idea, another pair of hands, or time to try?
Event version:
Hands-On Fatherhood’s first Thornton–Northglenn pilot uses this format for 8–10 families. Participation is RSVP-only and children remain with their accompanying adult.
